HistoricalCommission <br />Minutes <br />October 20, 2010 <br />Page 3of 3 <br />F.The co-sponsored Library-Museum programWorld War II Scrapbook: Remembering <br />Louisville’s Servicemen and Women,is Wednesday, Nov. 3rd, 7 PM, at the Louisville <br />Public Library Meeting Room. <br />Discussion turned to space to properly curatethe City’s Museum collectionand a desire for <br />more staff time and funding to better interpret and share our City’s history with the public. <br />The Conservation Assessment Program report from 2004 recommended that the Museum <br />havespace for the collection in a building to be constructed between the Jacoeand the <br />Tomeo House. Commission members expressed concern about the City’s ability to <br />properly conserve its collection and to interpret our history for our citizens with the current <br />set up regarding space andstaff hours.Grant funding was discussed as a way to <br />supplement the budget. After further discussion,it was determined to schedule a <br />Commission study session focused on clarifying our priorities, and recommendations for <br />the City, so that we can better recommend action and better fulfill our mission to the City. <br />IX.Museum and Commission Projects <br />A.TheCommission discussed nominations for the2011 Pioneer Award recipient. Several <br />names were mentioned. Dave Ferguson will submit nominations for the next meeting.. <br />B.Membership:The Commission votedto spend up to$300 for refreshments for a Business <br />Sponsor Appreciation event to be held at Creative Framing onNov. 16 from4:30 –6:30. <br />Dan Mellish is coordinatingthe event. <br />C.Given the recent flooding incident in the Museum basement, a dehumidifier purchase for <br />the Museum basementwas discussed.Beth will ask City Building Maintenance to <br />recommend a humidifier option with pricing so that the Commission can make a decision at <br />the next meeting. <br />D.Updates: History Book Club & Summer Walking Tours. The walking tours raised $510 <br />over the course of the summer and were well attended.The Commission recognized Anne <br />Robinson for her time and dedication. <br />E.Update –Oral History Program. The program is going well and volunteer interviewers are <br />continuing to conduct interviews. DVDs of the interviews are being given to the narrators. <br />F.Update –Labor Day Parade. The Commission won a trophy for its parade entry on behalf <br />of the Museum. Lynn Koglin is taking it for now. <br />G.Bridget Bacon reported that the self-guided walking tour brochure supply is lowand she <br />asked for direction on how to proceed. As Avista has sponsored the brochure in the past, it <br />was decided that Avista should be contacted to ask if it would be willing to sponsor it again. <br />H.Local author Anne Dyni offered to sell a few copies of her book on Boulder County schools, <br />Back to Basics, to the Commission at 40% off the retail price for reselling at the Museum. <br />The Commission voted todo so. <br />I.The Commission voted to pay Marion Junior$1,250 for 250 handmadeholiday ornaments. <br />X.Chairperson’s Report: Dan Mellish <br />A. Dan noted that the joint meeting in September with the Library Board of Trusteeswas <br />valuable. The Commission members discussed the joint meeting as being a positive step. <br />They also noted having learned at the meeting that the Library Board of Trustees has a liaison <br />from City Council. Itwas expressed that it would also be helpful if the Historical Commission <br />were to also have a liaison. It was decided that this would be worth pursuing. <br />XI.Commission Comments. <br />There were no additional comments. <br />XII.The next regular meeting is Wednesday, November17at 6:30 p.m. <br />XIII.Adjourn, 8 p.m. <br /> <br />
