Horticulture & Forestry
Advisory Board
MINUTES
Thursday, December 2, 2010
Library Meeting Room
951 Spruce Street
7:00
PM
Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
I.
Roll Call—Board members present: Mike Frontczak, Meredith Preston-Eddy, Matt
II.
Tepe, Ellen Toon. Board members absent: Kimberly Heestand, Theresa Rounds. Staff
members present: Dean Johnson, Chris Lichty. Guests: Troy Russ, Planning Dept
Director, and Shelly Alm, new board member as of January 2011.
Approval of Agenda—The agenda was approved by all members.
III.
Approval of Minutes—The minutes from the November 4, 2010 meeting were
IV.
approved.
Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda—As a resident of the area near
V.
Pirate’s Park, Troy commented that the spruce trees and lilac hedge screen parts of the
playground from view, causing concern for the safety of the children on the playground.
The park is owned by Boulder Valley School District and leased to the City; Dean and
Chris will look into possible solutions.
Introduction of preliminary Pedestrian Plan—Troy Russ presented data and
VI.
conceptual drawings for some of the 33 projects planned for downtown Louisville. A
parking study has shown that off-street parking is not being fully utilized. A walking
audit helped produce a list of several areas where the projects would not only improve
“walkability” but also parking utilization in the downtown area. Most projects will cost
less than $20,000. One example of a high-profile project which would attract more
pedestrians to the downtown area is permanent installation of the restaurant patios on
Main Street, which would be completed in conjunction with repaving Main and planting
new street trees
Troy recommended that HFAB write a resolution of support for the Pedestrian Plan, to
be directed to City Council.
City of Louisville
Parks & Recreation Department
749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027
303.335.4735 (phone) 303.335.4738 (fax) www.louisvilleco.gov
