Horticulture & Forestry <br />Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Thursday, February 3, 2011 <br />Library Meeting Room <br />951 Spruce Street <br />7:00 <br />PM <br /> Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. <br />I. <br /> Roll Call—Board members present: Mike Frontczak, Kimberly Heestand, Meredith <br />II. <br />Preston-Eddy, Theresa Rounds, Matt Tepe, Ellen Toon. Board member absent: Shelly <br />Alm. Staff members present: Dean Johnson, Chris Lichty, Joe Stevens. City Council <br />member present: Dave Clabots. Guest:Kathy Kron, Parks and Recreation Project <br />Manager. <br /> Approval of Agenda—the agenda was approved by all members. <br />III. <br /> Approval of Minutes—the minutes from the December 2, 2010 meeting were <br />IV. <br />approved. <br /> Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda—No public present. Theresa <br />V. <br />attended Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, and on behalf of HFAB gave a verbal <br />endorsement of the Pedestrian Plan Resolution. <br /> Locations for posting notices of public meetings—reviewed and approved. <br />VI. <br /> Arboretum CIP funding—Update from Dean: Electrical project has been <br />VII. <br />completed. Improvements to irrigation system, specifically drip irrigation, would cost <br />more than $15,000.00 (which is the amount allocated to the Arboretum in the 2011 City <br />budget.) <br />Kathy referred to a photo of the pergola and discussed several ideas for improving the <br />shelter area in order to prepare it for rental by residents for events. Ideas include <br />enlarge the hardscape footprint under the pergola; landscape planting including <br />possible turf areas; decorative covers and/or planters for the cement pillars; improve <br />walkways; extend flagstone outside of pergola; plant shade trees near the west side; <br />and portable restrooms.
