Buildings must be at least 50 years of age.
DESIGN ASSISTANCE:
The architects on the HPC continued to offer design assistance to a number of properties in
2010, to help owners sensitively preserve their structures while making additions or other
changes. Design assistance has encouraged several homeowners to build additions that are
more in scale and character with the existing homes. Design assistance has also prevented a
few demolitions.
OTHER:
• The HPC reviewed and offered suggestions for the new Sign Code, which was ultimately
adopted by City Council.
• The HPC discussed potential projects with several property owners, and made
suggestions on how the projects could be completed without damage to the historic
fabric. These discussions included new windows for the Empire Lounge.
• The HPC once again designated several properties for Preservation Awards, to
celebrate the preservation and /or restoration of these structures. They were recognized
at a City Council meeting on October 5, 2010.
2011 GOALS
• The HPC hopes to continue to work with staff and potential owners to find a way to
preserve and adaptively reuse the historic Grain Elevator.
• The HPC hopes to complete the landmarking process for the Cemetery.
• The HPC hopes to recommend incentives from the HPF tailored to commercial
structures, and if those are adopted by Council, to conduct community outreach.
• The HPC hopes to offer a preservation program in conjunction with the Library in May
2011.
• The HPC hopes to finalize a plaque design for Louisville landmarks and begin having
them placed in 2011.
• Integrate preservation goals with city sustainability goals (i.e. energy efficiency resource
conservation).
• Residential area compatible development issues.
• Consider hiring an on -call structural engineer for the Preservation Program.
• Complete the Jefferson Place Historic Survey and, depending on the results, seek the
creation of a Historic District. The HPC will continue to survey resources and seek to
identify potential historic districts (such as Jefferson Place) and their benefits to property
owners
The following is a list of the 2011 HPC meeting schedule:
4
