Cityof Louisville <br />PARKS & RECREATION <br />MEMORANDUM <br />To: Open Space Advisory Board <br />From: Open Space Division <br />Date: August 14, 2024 <br />Re: Information Item 6: Staff Updates <br />General: <br />1. The Acquisition Process discussion with City Council will be postponed <br />(tentatively to January 7, 2025) so that the Interim City Manager, and possibly <br />the new City Manager, can be briefed on the topic and participate in developing <br />the process. If OSAB would like to provide additional feedback to city Council <br />regarding the process then the topic should be added to a future agenda item. <br />2. The City Manager and City Attorney have met with the South Boulder Road <br />Property leadership team to discuss this property. Due to existing restrictive <br />covenant, the property must be used as affordable housing. Staff is working to <br />ensure that the trail connection remains. <br />3. 2024 Colorado Open Space Alliance Conference (COSA), Grand Junction, <br />September 29 through October 2, 2024. Register before August 23, 2024 for an <br />early bird price of $350; https://coloradoopenspace.org/conference/ <br />Natural Resources: <br />1. Harper Lake Juniper Removals: staff has been utilizing seasonal staff and Boulder <br />County Youth Corps to remove all Common and Creeping Juniper located along <br />the northern property fence line. Junipers will be replaced by native low - <br />flammability shrubs at a later date this fall. Fire mitigation standards will be utilized <br />for planting selections and locations. <br />2. Staff continues to water pocket prairie plantings at Aquarius, Hecla and is also <br />programing watering of watering Warembourg shrubs. <br />3. Staff are revisiting best practices protocols for shrub and forb planting, care and <br />maintenance. <br />4. Staff continues fishing line and trash pickup along Harper Lake and Warembourg <br />Fishing Pond. <br />5. Staff continues removal of dead branches, debris, and invasive woody vegetation <br />along Dutch Creek. <br />6. The Weed Whackers program continues to assist greatly with noxious weed <br />control. In addition, staff and the Boulder County Youth Corps helped remove <br />weeds on Davidson Mesa and other select Open Space properties. Biocontrol for <br />bindweed and knapweed were released on select properties in July. A List A <br />species, Hairy Willow -herb was treated at Bullhead Gulch Open Space. <br />10 <br />
