Parks & Public Landscaping Advisory Board
Minutes
July 10, 2024
Cynthia Corne recommends a smaller plaza, not 12', move to the north, will that impact
neighbors concern about noise and privacy? A 6' plaza, surprised to see it in the center.
In its current form it needs to be removed, could also relocate or make it smaller so it
doesn't impede anyone's privacy.
Can staff and designers please look at moving or repositioning the plaza from the middle
of the open space?
Neighbor Laura Scherer: Plan has only been available to review for one week, need
some more time to consider this plan. Bryon indicated that not much grading will occur.
A bit of a sunk cost fallacy because we are so far down the road.
Bryon Weber: The grading which Laura Scherer commented on, I was referring only to
the Northern portion needing to be graded.
Draft PPLAB statement 2 - approved
Consensus: Contingent approval of the 90% design. Plaza as currently proposed is not
recommended, explore an alternate location or smaller, if it cannot be relocated or made
smaller, the plaza should be removed, the sunflower motif repurposed and irrigation plan
should be updated to include irrigation of the entire play area.
Revisit the plant list at 100% review, recommended removal of Weigela and Miss Kim
lilac
We would like to see full turf replacement be considered either by project budget or Ops
budget. Please consider low water turf.
VII. Finance — Parks 25-26 budget update- Deferred until August meetings
VIII. Board Reports - none
IX. Staff Updates - see staff report in budget
X. Discussion Items for Next Meeting
• Median projects past and present
• Continue lessons learned about median projects
• Abby McNeal will provide an update on Bee City and Tree City graphic review
• Placeholder for update on both parks in August meeting
XI. Adjourn - meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm
10
