HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE ANALYIS AND CRITERIA FOR LISTING AS LOCAL <br />LANDMARK: <br />In order to receive a City Landmark designation, landmarks must be at least 50 years old and <br />meet one or more of the criteria for architectural, social or geographic/environmental <br />significance as described in Louisville Municipal Code (LMC) Section 15.36.050(A). <br />Staff analysis of the criteria is as follows: <br />Sec. 15.36.050. - Criteria for Designation <br />Criteria <br />A. Landmarks must be at least 50 years <br />old and meet one or more of the <br />criteria for architectural, social or <br />geographic/environmental <br />significance as described in this <br />chapter. <br />1. a. Architectural. <br />1) Exemplifies specific elements <br />of an architectural style or <br />period. <br />2) Example of the work of an <br />architect or builder who is <br />recognized for expertise <br />nationally, statewide, regionally, <br />or locally. <br />3) Demonstrates superior <br />craftsmanship or high artistic <br />value. <br />4) Represents an innovation in <br />construction, materials or design. <br />5) Style particularly associated with <br />the Louisville area. <br />6) Represents a built environment of <br />a group of people in an era of <br />history that is culturally significant <br />to Louisville. <br />7) Pattern or grouping of elements <br />representing at least one of the <br />above criteria. <br />8) Significant historic remodel. <br />Meets <br />Criteria? <br />Yes <br />Yes <br />Evaluation <br />917 Rex Street was constructed in <br />1936, making it approximately 87 <br />years old. <br />The detached garage was likely built <br />prior to 1948, since there is a <br />detached garage noted on the 1948 <br />Assessor's Card and there is a garage <br />in the same location as today in a <br />1955 aerial photograph. The garage is <br />likely at least 76 years old. <br />Architectural Significance - <br />Exemplifies specific elements of an <br />architectural style or period. <br />• The primary structure at 917 <br />Rex maintains its Bungalow <br />style and overall simple form <br />from its original construction. <br />• The detached garage has a <br />clipped gable roof and original <br />siding and sliding doors. <br />
