Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
November 3, 2005

review and comment. Goal is to prepare recommendations to offer to
City Council by December.
2) HFAB members will purchase a garden plot at the Louisville Historical
Museum. Voluntary donation amounts will be finalized at November
meeting.

VI. Arboretum
Regarding weeding the Xeric Demonstration Garden, Chris will contact Rotary
members Dave Russell and/or Brian Wheat to schedule a Saturday this month
for volunteers to weed the garden. Dave Clabots suggested calling a Louisville
Times photographer to photograph volunteers during the weeding project.
Discussion of bindweed mite as a control for field bindweed.

Theresa will provide update in November on jail work crews to care for
Arboretum. Chris stated that the Youth Corps does a great deal of Arboretum
maintenance during the summer months. Fred suggested that individuals
required to perform community service be offered the option of doing Arboretum
tasks-Mike offered to check into this.

According to Chris, per Bill Simmons the Arboretum should be established as a
501 (c) 3 non-profit. Chris will proceed with Land Management to draft and pay
for establishment of non-profit status. The goal is to be able to accept donations
for the Arboretum by 2007, with HFAB assuming stewardship of the account.

Re Arboretum signage along Via Appia, a large formal sign near the skatepark
entrance will probably have to be postponed due to budget constraints. Chris will
work on smaller directional signs, and update Board in November.

VII. City Council Update
Time will be set aside during November meeting to draft a summary of HFAB
activities to be presented at a future City Council meeting.

VIII. Development of HFAB web page
Discussion of content and how to integrate it into the Land Management section
of the City's website. Fred will contact Meredith to request her assistance in
placing material such as Arboretum information on the website.

IX. Tree ID and Xeric Garden Plant ID Brochure
Discussion of placing identification maps and keys on website. In addition, Chris
will contact staff at new library to place Arboretum plans and existing print
information at library.

X. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
