Cultural Council
Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2006

City Staff Update
Let Julie know ASAP about dates for events. The LCC holds some dates open
for events.
Perhaps go to other group meetings- help with events (we co-sponsor them) or
they help with maintenance to arts center. LAA and Center Stage meet regularly.
Julie will send breakdown of usage to other groups.

Public Relations
Banner is still being working on it. The SCFD logo will be on the bottom of the
banner - still like for it to be vocally announced.

Proposed New Louisville Arts Center
Wendy will write letter to Mayor about talking to them and study session.
Economic Activity Study shows how much money arts generate.
We need to change the mindset about how arts makes money for the city. It
doesn't just cost the city. We export our arts. Not spending money at restaurants
etc.
Longmont is putting in a 500 seat arts center - community driven.
Tried to get multi city cooperation, but it didn't work. Don believes it should be
institutionalized in some way.

Sponsorship Committee
Kathy and Wendy met with the Downtown Business Association (DBA). Maybe
we can help each other. Kathy mentioned sponsorship.
Maryan got discounts for restaurants - 20% of people who came to salsa took
advantage of discount - local restaurants wanted to be involved.
Some want to get up in front of or be involved with event.
It is discussed that a sign maybe with business cards would be more appropriate.
David believes there should be limits to how far we should go in allowing
sponsors to advertise at events.

New Business:

Recap events
Coffeehouse concerts 120 and 95 people. They were successful events.
Donation jars were put out. Vics sponsored for free.

Salsa night was a success. There were 52 paying attendees.
Chips and salsa were donated by five sponsoring restaurants.
Local dance group might want to help. Maryan believes we can charge more if
needed. It should be make clear how long artists are expected to stay.

New evaluation of event form made by Maryan

Poetry night was an artistic success, but a financial loss. 19 people attended.
