Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
December 7, 2006

overseeding program with appropriate native-type grasses on all city-
maintained turf areas, i.e., buffalo grass.

The Board agreed that edging of all turf areas-with a metal blade only, not
with a weed whip-can be cut back in the specifications to twice a year.

HFAB would like to encourage the use of local contractors if they can be
competitive.

Other than as noted above, the Board took no issue with Scott's
comments.

VII. Arboretum

1) Update on establishing 501 (c)(3) non-profit for Arboretum

The City Attorney is still in the process of reviewing and preparing
the documents for the establishment of a 501 (c)(3).

During Theresa's presentation to the City Council, Don Brown
suggested that HFAB's 501 (c)(3) might be consolidated with a
501 (c)(3) for the Open Space Board. Susan said she would not
support such a consolidation because HFAB's needs, specifically
for the Arboretum, are very different from Open Space's needs,
and it could be potentially confusing to donors who might want to
contribute specifically to HFAB or to specific HFAB projects.
Theresa brought up that Chuck Sisk supports the separation of
HFAB and Open Space entities.

At this point, HFAB wants to proceed with an independent
501 (c)(3).

2) Setting a schedule for implementation of street and
entrance signage

Theresa reported that the City Council has okayed the installation
of permanent signage on Via Appia for the Arboretum. The Board
agreed that they recommend that skate park be included on any
street or entrance signage.

3)

Amy at the Rec. Center has okayed the display of a framed copy
of Courtney's design for the Arboretum. [Who will do this?]
