<br />Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />December 7, 2006 <br /> <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />overseeding program with appropriate native-type grasses on all city- <br />maintained turf areas, i.e., buffalo grass. <br /> <br />The Board agreed that edging of all turf areas-with a metal blade only, not <br />with a weed whip-can be cut back in the specifications to twice a year. <br /> <br />HFAB would like to encourage the use of local contractors if they can be <br />competitive. <br /> <br />Other than as noted above, the Board took no issue with Scott's <br />comments. <br /> <br />VII. Arboretum <br /> <br />1) Update on establishing 501 (c)(3) non-profit for Arboretum <br /> <br />The City Attorney is still in the process of reviewing and preparing <br />the documents for the establishment of a 501 (c)(3). <br /> <br />During Theresa's presentation to the City Council, Don Brown <br />suggested that HFAB's 501 (c)(3) might be consolidated with a <br />501 (c)(3) for the Open Space Board. Susan said she would not <br />support such a consolidation because HFAB's needs, specifically <br />for the Arboretum, are very different from Open Space's needs, <br />and it could be potentially confusing to donors who might want to <br />contribute specifically to HFAB or to specific HFAB projects. <br />Theresa brought up that Chuck Sisk supports the separation of <br />HFAB and Open Space entities. <br /> <br />At this point, HFAB wants to proceed with an independent <br />501 (c)(3). <br /> <br />2) Setting a schedule for implementation of street and <br />entrance signage <br /> <br />Theresa reported that the City Council has okayed the installation <br />of permanent signage on Via Appia for the Arboretum. The Board <br />agreed that they recommend that skate park be included on any <br />street or entrance signage. <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />Amy at the Rec. Center has okayed the display of a framed copy <br />of Courtney's design for the Arboretum. [Who will do this?] <br />
