When this house was first built it was neither a house nor on this
lot. It was originally constructed in 1910 as a carriage house for John and Margaret "Maggie" Thompson, whose
primary residence was addressed 301 Spruce Street. They owned Lots 12 through18 in Louisville Heights.
1938 to 1939 - Henry and Mary Vendestrates
The Thompson's sold Lots 17 and 18 to Henry and Mary Vendestrates. The Vendestrates then purchased the
carriage house and had it moved to Lots 17 and18, where it currently resides. The property and house were
sold to Frank and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Adkins in1939.
1939 to 1989 - Frank and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Thompson
Frank Adkins was a miner in the Superior Coal Mines. The mining in Superior was performed seasonally, so
Frank would paint houses in Louisville on his off season. There is still evidence of spilled paint colors in
concrete block studio on the southeast corner of the property. The Assessor's records show the concrete
building, as well as the garage, were both built in 1946.
1989 to 1991
The Adkins owned the house for 50 years, at which time Franks sold the house to the Kelleghan's in 1989, who
then sold the house to the current owners in 1991.
816 WKINLEY AVE, PAGE - 6
