DAA JDESIGN <br />ARCH ITECTURE+INTER IORS <br />EXTERIOR FINISHES <br />Description: <br />The entirety of the building is covered in painted composite lap siding with painted <br />metal corners. According to building records, this siding was added in 1987. <br />There are some seams and jogs in the siding that indicate where modifications or <br />additions were made. <br />The original siding appears to be a painted wood clapboard siding that is visible in <br />a photograph from 1948. It appears that the siding changed by 1960. The siding <br />00.�in the 1960 photograph appears to be either a lap siding with a large face (8-inch <br />or more exposure), or what is more likely and commonly seen in Louisville, the <br />� siding in the 1960 photograph is an asbestos composite siding. This type of siding <br />was used throughout Louisville around this timeframe and was typically applied <br />directly over the original wood siding. The original wood siding is likely attached <br />directly to the wall studs and therefore would likely not have been removed. There <br />is a high probability that the siding that exists in 2024 is applied over a layer of <br />asbestos siding as well as the original wood clapboard siding as this has been the <br />case on numerous buildings throughout Louisville. <br />Condition Evaluation: <br />Mitered siding corners <br />The lap siding is in fair condition as there are some areas, particularly at the base With painted metal caps <br />of the siding, that are partially chipped or corroded from water damage. <br />Recommendations: <br />The original painted wood clapboard siding likely still exists beneath one or more layers of siding. <br />Deconstructive investigation should be done to determine the presence of any original wood siding. If it is <br />determined that the original wood siding still exists, then any subsequent layers of siding should be removed <br />after first receiving an asbestos test on the siding. Repair, refinish, or replace the original wood clapboard <br />siding. <br />EXTERIOR MASONRY <br />Description: <br />There is no exterior masonry on the building in 2024. However, there is a brick chimney base in the basement <br />that once ran through the roof as can be seen in historic photographs. <br />Condition Evaluation: <br />The brick chimney in the basement is set adjacent <br />to an unsupported soil cut as discussed above. <br />Therefore, the chimney remnants should be <br />removed. <br />Recommendations: <br />Consider creating a false chimney to match <br />historic photographs. The chimney location can be <br />determined through photographs as well as the <br />location of the chimney base in the basement. <br />Brick chimney as seen in historic photographs. <br />921 MAIN PAGE - 28 <br />
