DAJDESIGN
ARCHITECTURE, INTERIORS
Frank and Rose are descended from immigrants from Yugoslavia (currently Croatia) and
Austria, but both were born in Colorado. They were married in 1931 and moved to New
Mexico where Frank worked as a coal miner and their children — Frank J. and Kathryn were
born. The Kuretich family arrived in Louisville in 1940 or 1941. They are notable for being
v the last residents of the Tomeo House, which is currently part of the Louisville Historical
Museum. Shortly after, the Kuretich family was living at 1024 LaFarge where Frank J. and
Kathryn grew up. At that time Frank continued to work as a coal miner and Rose began as
a maid at a hospital and was later a surgical aid at Boulder Community Hospital by the
time of her retirement in 1966. It is not apparent that either Kathryn or Frank J. ever lived
at 1155 Pine and they may have used the property for additional rental income.
Recent Ownership
Josephine A. Duran and Diana D. Sorbo Ownership, 1978-1997
Josephine Duran (1934-2015) purchased the house from Kathryn King and Frank J.
Kuretich in 1978. Josephine grew up in Louisville in the 1940s and lived on Front St. with
her parents Solomon Duran (1903-1970) and Emma Zamora Duran (1913-1944) and eight
siblings and half -siblings. Louisville has been home to several generations of the Duran
family beginning with Josephine's grandparents, Jose Eligio Duran (1881-1956) and Maria
Apodaca (1888-1977). Jose and Maria were both born in Colorado and lived in several
different towns before moving to Louisville by 1940. They had fifteen children, including
their oldest son Solomon Duran who was Josephine's father. In both the 1940 and 1950
census, there are three Duran families living on Front St. including Josephine's family.
Many of the Duran men worked in construction, farming, or with the railroad. Josephine
worked at Luigi's restaurant in Louisville and later at the University of Colorado -Boulder.
She moved to Westminster after her retirement. The location of 1155 Pine is in proximity
to members of the extended Duran family as well as other Hispanic families that lived
primarily on Front St. and the Little Italy neighborhood.
Jerald S Gilkison Ownership, 1997-current
Jerald Gilkison is the most recent owner of the property at 1155 Pine, purchasing the lot
from Josephine Duran in 1997.
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property
records, census records, oral history interviews, Louisville directories, and Louisville Historical
Museum maps, files, and obituary records.
1155 PINE ST.
