To make this piece a
truly collective community art installation, the artists
would love to incorporate your submissions into the
surface of the handmade ceramic tiles that will cover
the sculpture.
What does our community mean to you? Create
a personal handwritten word, phrase or simple
sketch about what Louisville's strength, love and
resilience means to you, and submit them at collection
boxes at the Library and Recreation Center. You
can also send a photo of your handwritten words
to Isvcommunityresilience@gmail.com.
The artists will build this sculpture over the winter;
anticipated installation is spring of 2024.
Life in Louisville Photo Contest
Dec. 1, 2023 — Jan. 12, 2024
Share your best photos with the "Life in Louisville"
contest! The treat bags will be
available at the Museum, 1001 Main Street, between 5
and 7 p.m.
This continues the Louisville holiday tradition of 4
handing out sacks of treats to children. For decades,
from the 1920s to the 1980s, Louisville community
organizations sponsored these sacks that typically
each contained an orange, nuts in the shell, and
pieces of ribbon candy. For many Louisville children,
receiving these treat sacks was a large part of their
holiday experience. During the Great Depression,
the sacks were often the only gifts for children in
some families.
We thank the Louisville History Foundation for
sponsoring the treat bags again this year and for
continuing the tradition.
New front window exhibit
There's a new exhibit in the Museum's front window!
"Let's Eat: Dining In and Dining Out" features Louisville
cooking and food items from the Museum collection
as well as restaurant menus, advertisements, lunch
pails, photographs and memorabilia. What will you
remember or encounter for the first time?
"Be Mine: Historic Valentines to View and Make"
Friday, Feb. 2 16 p.m. I Louisville Historical Musuem
The Historical Museum will have historic valentines
on display during Louisville's First Friday in February.
Start the month of love off right by creating your own
vintage valentine postcard to mail to your sweetheart.
0
COL-2023-CU-Winter-Working_F.indd 15
*
Winter 2023-24 • Page 15
11/14/23 10:07 AM
