Davidson Mesa and North Open <br />Space will rest until spring 2026 to support grass recovery and soil health. Rest <br />rotations improve root development, native grass vigor, carbon sequestration, <br />and overall ecosystem resilience. <br />o Spring Goat Grazing - <br />■ Spring goat browsing treated 5.1 acres, including a new site: Coyote Run Open <br />Space. <br />• This season focused on noxious weed control, targeting flower heads to reduce <br />seed development. <br />• Goats will return to North Open Space this fall to browse dense shrub areas on <br />the western edge. <br />o Fall Look ahead: <br />o Staff are in discussions with the: <br />• Sheriff's Office for collaborative opportunities for additional woody <br />materials removal to support fuels mitigation. <br />• Denver Zoo for donation of woody materials to the Zoo for animal <br />welfare. <br />• Colorado State Forest Service to expand Fire Mitigation Grant Funding <br />opportunities through 2027 <br />• Ditch Company for collaboration on mitigation opportunities for ditches <br />that cross Open Space lands. <br />• Louisville Fire Department. Staff is offering Open Space mitigation data <br />and support in the Development of the Fire Departments Wildifre Risk <br />Analysis. <br />• Staff is wrapping up the 2025 Boulder Youth Corps season with the crew's final day of work set <br />for August 5, 2025. It has been a great benefit to have their assistance this year with such a wide <br />range of projects. From fortifying and enhancing the aesthetics of amenities like our bench pads <br />to installing new education and interpretive signs, and installing animal -proof trash cans. <br />Natural Resources: <br />• Staff released biocontrol on diffuse knapweed. <br />• The Warembourg fishing pond was refilled. <br />• A contractor is conducting vegetation surveys on all Open Space properties. <br />Maintenance & Trails: <br />• On July 17, 2025, the Dillon Underpass was impacted by a heavy rain event that flooded the area <br />and undercut the concrete path. Staff took action the next morning by closing the trail and <br />updating our partners and trail map. The trail has been fully repaired. <br />9 <br />
