Memo: Louisville Revitalization Commission Page -2
Louisville Comprehensive Plan as well as the Urban Renewal Plan. These goals and
values have been enthusiastically affirmed by our citizenry on numerous occasions. I
believe that all of us on City boards and commissions, (not just those of us on HPC) must
share this responsibility of good stewardship and management of our historic resources as
much as practical in the various activities in which we are engaged. It is in this light that I
request your consideration of these goals and policies in the event you have conversations
or enter into negotiations with this developer and others as properties are redeveloped.
With respect to the Rod Club please consider its retention and preservation as a
condition for redevelopment of the property.
Please be assured that I, and the HPC, support and applaud all your work and efforts to
facilitate redevelopment projects. Also, be assured that HPC does not view preservation
of historic resources as a tool to limit development, but rather that preservation and
development can mutually benefit and enhance each other, increase overall property
values, and preserve Louisville's sense of place.
As always I look forward to working with you and offer HPC's assistance and
cooperation regarding this project as well as others in the future.
Thank you for considering these concerns,
Peter Stewart
Chair, Historic Preservation Commission
