Sustainability AdvisoryBoard <br />March-2011 Meeting Minutes <br />Page 2of 2 <br />Design of LSAB Webpage: <br />We had some follow-up discussion about our proposed <br />additions to the LSAB page on the city’s website; Arno and Ted had prepared a layout <br />of topics and links. They will plan to meet with Meredyth to determine details for <br />implementation. <br />VIII.Zero-Waste Action Plan: <br />The scheduled presentation about Boulder County’s <br />new Zero-Waste Action Planwas postponed until our April meeting. <br />IX. EnergySmart program: <br />Ms Beth Beckel, Energy Efficiency &Sustainability <br />Specialist with the Boulder-County Commissioners Office, gave us a slide-show <br />presentation on the county’s newly implemented EnergySmartprogram <br />(energysmartyes.com). The program offers subsidized energy audits(customers pay <br />$120 audit fee),energy-saving recommendations, help with contractor selection & bid <br />evaluationfor follow-up improvements, assistance with rebates & financing, and some <br />free energy-saving items.The program is available to all Boulder-County residents and <br />businesses. <br />It is funded by the US DoE, with about $12-Mavailable for residential and commercial <br />audits. It is a consolidation of some previous separate county programs into a single <br />comprehensive program that is intended to be a one-stop site for county residentsto go <br />to for energy-efficiency improvements, one-on-onewith anexpert advisor. <br />Rebates up to $250 will be available for selected improvements; some commercial <br />lighting projects may qualify for rebates up to $5-K.Low-interest loans (through a self- <br />sustaining micro-loans program) at 2-1/2% interest for 1-to 3-yr terms will be available. <br />The program officially started in January 2011, and will continue until May 2013, when <br />the DoE funding will terminate. <br />After her presentation, Ms Beckel answered questions and asked us for suggestions on <br />how to effectively disseminate information about the program.Members suggested <br />going to various senior-residents groups and clubs; churches; using our local library for <br />public presentations; going through the ‘kilowattkids’ program with BVSD; and going to <br />home-improvement retailers, such as Home Depot and Lowes here in Louisville.
