Where Does the Money Come From?
Through the City of Louisville's General Fund, the Library receives most of its
funding from sales and lodging taxes collected on businesses in the City. In
2010, the Library's budget for operations and maintenance was $1.36 million.
Louisville residents contributed $670,000 in property taxes toward debt
service on bonds used to build the new library. Library fees and charges,
amounting to $54,000 in 2010, are contributed to the City's General Fund.
created the
fund the Town's
Getting questions answered.
The Louisville Public Library Foundation provided
$23,000 for Library materials and programs in
2010. These funds are collected through donations
from the Foundation's fundraising efforts and
used book sales. In 2010, the Library Foundation
received a bequest from Marian Madison and
Madison Contribution, which will support Library programming
including the "On the Same Page" community one -book program that is being
co- sponsored by Louisville, Lafayette, and Superior.
Additionally, in 2007, under the terms of an Intergov-
ernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of
Louisville and the Town of Superior, Superior began
contributing funds to support their residents' usage
of the Louisville Public Library. In 2010, the Town's
voters passed a mill levy— taking effect in 2011 —to
usage of library services, excluding building maintenance and
bond repayment. Superior residents account for 20% of all Library use. In
2010, the Town's contribution was $125,000.
Library and Museum staff also investigate opportunities for grant funding
through private, state and federal programs. The Library recently submitted
a grant application to Colorado Humanities for the "On the Same Page"
program.
A Day at Your Library
Family Movie Night!
5
Books, WiFi, places to read,
study, and hang out.
■
