Proposed new mission statement for the Historical Commission: The mission of the Louisville Historical Commission is to promote public awareness of the history of Louisville, Colorado and its surrounding community, with an emphasis on the coal-mining era, 1877-1955. The primary role of the Historical Commission is to act as an advisory board to the Louisville City Council on matters relating to the Louisville Historical Museum and Louisville history. The Commission establishes and monitors criteria for the collection, preservation, and display of historical artifacts, documents, and structures by the Louisville Historical Museum. The Commission is also a 501c3 nonprofit organization with responsibilities for raising supplemental funds for Historical Museum projects, and solicits public and private support for programs dealing with the City’s history.
