Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />June 4, 2012 <br />Page 3of 4 <br />Citizen, Doug Walter –assumed the patios belonged to the restaurants. <br />Shelley Angell –When the patios went up were the restaurants required to have a patio or did <br />they have a choice?Jill Midgleyconfirmed all the restaurants wanted in on the patios. <br />City Manager Fleming –the City provides a Revocable License Agreement to each restaurant for <br />the patio space, restaurant owns the tables and chairs, DBA owns the patios. <br />Councilmember Jasiak –patiosare a clear benefit to the City, but let’s not forget about our friends <br />in Centennial Valley. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Dalton –do we want a wide boulevard or wide sidewalks?Important question to <br />answer for future design. <br />BRAD Chair and Councilmember Sackett –good discussion. Staff needs to tell us what should <br />be done, asked City Manager Fleming to come back at a future meeting to discuss. <br />City Manager Fleming wants a broader discussion and input from all parties. <br />Michael Menaker –the DBA came very close to not putting up the patios this year. <br />Councilmember Jasiak –directed her comments to City Manager Fleming that when we look at <br />this issue be creative on funding, involve the public. <br />Scott Reichenberg –restaurants are the stakeholders. <br />Mayor Pro Tem –supportsMalcolm’s suggestion to involve the community. <br />City Manager Fleming –didn’t realize that it was a close call on whether the patios went up this <br />year. Need to meet with the DBA on this and discuss design details, funding, implementation, <br />and be ready fornext year. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Dalton –include the patios in budget discussion. <br />RETENTION MEETINGS – <br />None. <br />Economic Development Director, Aaron DeJong,still ramping up, but will get retention meetings back on <br />track andscheduled for June. Shelley Angell from the Chamber said that the Chamber usually is <br />successful meeting with smaller businesses, but it’s difficult to get into the larger organizations. The <br />smaller businesses really appreciate visits.Michael Menaker asked that there be a focus on the PUD <br />and meet with the owner of the office building to discuss the landscape issues in Centennial Valley and <br />elsewhere. <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTBRIEFING <br />–Aaron DeJong <br />ICSC Trip –Met with: <br />-Current business owners in Louisville and many others. <br />-Held two goodmeetings, one with Home Depot and one with Lowe’s. Both say they are doing <br />well. Staff informed them of the DDI design at the US36 and McCaslin interchange. Aaron <br />will keep them updated on the project. <br />-Regional Director for Walgreen’s. The South Boulder Road location is continuously being <br />evaluated and will continue to be watched. <br />-Wal Mart representative and three of their brokers. City Manager Fleming said that Wal Mart <br />does extensive costs benefit analysis indetermininglocation for their stores. This analysis <br />helps them decidewhether to allow a competitor to purchase the vacant Sam’s building or is it <br />more cost effective for the company to have the building vacant. <br />-Kroger’s, owner of King Soopers, and they are happy with their remodel but they would like a <br />bigger market share in Louisville. <br />-Broker for Louisville Plaza -there is an interested tenant for the vacant Big Lots. <br />-Met with Buxton who does cost benefit analysis for properties. <br /> <br />
