COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />MALCOLM FLEMING <br />CITY MANAGER <br />DATE: JULY 16, 2012 <br />SUBJECT: SALES TAX REPORT FOR THE MONTH ENDED MAY 31, 2012 <br />ORIGINATING <br />DEPARTMENT: CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE <br />SUMMARY: <br />Attached are the revenue reports for sales tax, lodging tax, auto use, building use tax <br />and consumer use tax for the month ending May 31, 2012. <br />The total for all revenues is up 18.6% YTD over 2011. <br />City sales tax revenue for May 2012 ended up 18% from May 2011 and is 2% above <br />budget YTD. <br />Please note that the budget revenues for tax reporting have been updated to represent <br />the latest approved budget amendments. <br />The top 50 vendors for 2012 ended the month of May 14.7% above May 2011. Part of the <br />increase is due to the receipt of missing payments in the Telecom /Utilities sector. <br />Current year declines by sector include Technology (- 30.6 %), Telecom /Utilities ( -7 %) and <br />General Merchandise (- 3.9 %). Current year gains include all other sectors; Grocery <br />(8.4 %), Home Improvement (16.2 %), Hotels (12.8 %), and Restaurants (5.1 %). <br />Analysis of all taxpayers for all areas and industry sectors indicate an increase for May <br />2012 of 16.6% above May 2011. <br />Lodging tax revenue for May 2012 ended 6% above May 2011 and is 1% above budget <br />YTD. <br />Auto use tax revenue for May 2012 ended 10.8% below May 2011 and is 3.3% below <br />budget YTD. <br />Building use tax revenue for May 2012 ended 44% above May 2011 and is 50.7% above <br />budget YTD. <br />isSUBJECT MAY 2012 SALES TAX REPORT AGENDA ITEM <br />5 <br />
