Building Code Board of Appeals Staff Report September 20, 2012 TO: Building Code Board of Appeals FROM: Louisville Department of Planning and Building Safety Gavin McMillan, AICP ITEM: 2012 Comprehensive Plan Update DATE: September 20, 2012 SUMMARY The Planning Division is leading a City-wide effort to update the Louisville Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is a significant tool intended to provide general guidance, establishing a flexible framework of community-based principles, policies and implementation strategies. The Comprehensive Plan should integrate and align governing regulations, infrastructure, and services with community values, needs and civic priorities, through a 20 year window. The first phase of the Louisville Comprehensive Plan update involved a staff led public outreach process which included meetings with each of the City’s boards, commissions, and interest groups along with a community workshop. The purpose of these meetings was to establish a Vision Statement and a set of Core Values for the Community. Planning Commission reviewed th the Vision Statement and Core Values at their May 24 meeting and forwarded an edited version of the document to City Council for consideration. City Council reviewed and approved the th following draft Vision Statement and Core Values at the June 19 City Council Meeting. Vision Statement friendly community that Established in 1878, the City of Louisville is an inclusive, family manages its continued growth by blending a forward-thinking outlook with a small-town atmosphere which engages its citizenry and provides a walkable community form that enables social interaction. The City strives to preserve and enhance the high quality of life it offers to those who live, work, and spend time in the community. Louisville retains connections to the City's modest mining and agricultural beginnings while continuing to transform into one of the most livable, innovative, and economically diverse communities in the United States. The structure and operation of the City will ensure an open and responsive government which integrates regional cooperation and citizen volunteerism with a broad range of highquality and costeffective services. The following core community values are the foundation upon which the City of Louisville will make decisions and achieve the Community’s vision.
