UTILITY BILL INSERTS When you receive your water, sewer, and trash bill you will often find a public service announcement on the bottom of the bill and /or an insert with information about a City project, program, or special event. Staff will try to answer your questions as soon as possible. 2012 BUDGET APPROVED The City Council held a series of public hearings in October and November culminat- ing in the City Council's Novem- ber 1 adoption of the City's 2012 Budget. During those hearings a number of specific items and expenditures were discussed. Key provisions of the budget include: The City is in good fiscal health thanks to: • The voter's approval of the Use Tax in 2010; • An increase in building permit revenue from the North End and Steel Ranch developments; • The recognition of Louisville as a destination for food and fun which has brought additional sales tax revenue; • The 2009 and 2010 budget cuts which helped to bring expenditures and revenues back into balance after the closure of Sam's Club and Safeway. The boost in revenue from the voter approved Use Tax makes it possible to restore, on a continuing basis, several services that we scaled back or eliminated funding for in 2009 to balance the budget. These include the July 4th fireworks, the branch recycle site, and funding for the senior meals site and special transit. The budget also includes funding to fill one of the two police officer positions that were kept vacant for the past two years and to restore hours for support staff in the Building Safety Division that were cut after the volume of building permits dropped off in 2008. Finally, the budget provides a funding increase for museum staff allowing the museum to be open to the public 11 more hours each week. All of these actions and others are being phased to en- sure the City's fiscal health is maintained and sustained over the next five years. Major capital projects planned for the next few years include the McCaslin Boulevard /Washington Avenue underpass, additional street repair and reconstruction, the South Street underpass at the railroad tracks, and additional funding for improvements at the Coal Creek Golf Course.
