Louisville Tree Board
Minutes of Board .:Meeting
May 6, 1999
Members Present:
Members Absent:
City Liaisons Present:
Howard Teague, Susan Spaulding, Jerry Warren, Nanette
Edwards
Bev Beaufait and Joe Donnegan
Steve Baysinger and Brad Chronowski
A.
General
1. Howard Teague called meeting to order, minutes from April meeting were
approved.
2. By -law changes from the April Meeting were discussed with a motion and
unanimous approval of changes.
3. Signs have been ordered for trees in,the arboretum. The plastic has yet to
arrive, signs will be cut by A &B Supply.
4. Board members and staff briefly toured the entry way and proposed'parking
area for the arboretum. The slope of the land is dictating. changing the lot
configuration. Brad will continue to work on the lot and report back to the
Board.
5. Norris Dullea representatives, Shawn Malone and Rob Williamson
presented preliminary concept plans for the 1999 gateway improvement at
McCaslin and South Boulder Road. This entryway is considerable larger
than the plan as addressed in the master plan. Along with a review of the
site through a picture board, the presentation covered a hand out itemizing
continuity, simplicity, strong elements, identity, transitions, appropriateness
and maintenance as key elements in the preliminary concepts.
Use of wild flower beds is to be a major component of the gateway for color.
After review of the preliminary concepts the board consensus was:
A. Use a shrub or planting berm rather than the grass berm shown on .
the plan.
B. Emphasize color, and more developed areas close to the corners of
McCaslin and South Boulder Road.
C. Consistency can be maintained by the rock wall, it would not have to
be in the same geometric form as S -3.
D. Separating the trail going east from South Boulder Road is desirable.
