Louisville City Council Meeting
October 16, 2001
Page 5

COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS

Councilman Brown reported on the Ward III meeting and the concerns voiced on traffic
at the intersections of St. Andrews and Dillon, and at Polk and Dahlia. He stated that he
has been working with the City Administrator and Staff to gather information about
traffic within those areas. He noted another area of concern was the South sub-area plan.

Brown asked City Administrator Simmons about the progress on the request to display
American Flags along the Main Street area. Simmons stated that Staff has been gathering
information and a report should be available in a few days.

Sisk reported that he and Councilmen Levihn and Brown will interview the applicants for
Municipal Judge on Wednesday, October 17, and Thursday, October 18, in the City
Council Chambers. He stated that the committee will then forward a recommendation on
three applicants to the Council.

Sisk reported on the Senior Board meeting. He stated that the seniors are pleased with
the transportation and expressed their gratitude to the Mayor and Council.

Levihn reminded Council that they had discussed setting a future work session on an
ordinance that would restrict junk cars and weeds. He stated that he has visited many of
the sites mentioned by Frosty Woolridge, and is in agreement that such an ordinance is
needed.

Keany reminded Council of the Chamber of Commerce "After Hours" on Thursday,
October 18th at Community First Bank, on Cherry Street, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Davidson reported that there have been a lot of articles in the newspapers about the
shortfall of the City's sales tax and that programs will be cut. He stated that in reality
there is a shortfall, but it is not unexpected and is a normal in governments. He stressed
that the City is in outstanding financial shape, and explained that the City has a surplus of
funds for the down cycles of sales tax. He asked Finance Director Ray for the dollar
amount held in reserve.

Ray stated that the General Fund reserves have approximately two million dollars, which
is over and above what the City is required to maintain in reserve.

Davidson reported that he will conduct Town meetings on Wednesday, October 17, and
Thursday October 18, at the Recreation Center, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., and invited all
citizens to attend. He noted that the topics to be discussed would include the budget,
open space, rail service and bus rapid transit, and the possibilities of its coming to
Louisville, and the development of the land east of the railroad tracks. He welcomed
citizens to come and discuss whatever issues they wish.

5
