Horticulture & Forestry
Advisory Board
Minutes
Thursday, January 10, 2013
Spruce Room—City Hall
749 Main Street
7:00
PM
I.Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
II.Roll call—Board members present: Mike Frontczak, Neal Griggsmiller, Eric
Gustafson, Mark Newland, Theresa Rounds, Ellen Toon. Board members absent:
Shelly Alm, Beverlee White. Staff members present: Dean Johnson, Joe Stevens. City
Council member present: Susan Loo. Guest: Paula Palmer.
III.The agenda was approved by all members.
IV.The minutes from the November 1, 2012 meeting were approved.
V.Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda— 1) Regarding the new exercise trail in
the Arboretum, Theresa commented that the location of one of the stations seems to be
incompatible with the original plans for a memorial walkway and garden. Since the
concrete pads and exercise equipment have already been installed, it may be necessary
to move the memorial walkway to another area of the Arboretum, if funding ever
becomes available. 2) Paula Palmer, a resident of the Cottonwood Park neighborhood
in Louisville, commented on the four acres of undeveloped property owned by the First
Baptist Church. The church is interested in selling the land, and some residents of the
area would like the City to acquire it for use as a park or open space. Discussion
touched on many issues including funding for acquisition and maintenance of parks;
residents’ access to and use of parks; the role of developers in providing land for parks
and open space; and the scope of responsibilities of volunteer boards and commissions.
It was suggested that the residents of the Cottonwood Park area should approach City
Council on a regular basis to raise awareness of their concerns.

··
Parks and Recreation Department 749 Main Street Louisville, CO 80027
·
(303) 335-4735 FAX (303) 335-4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
Parks Recreation Senior Services O
2
