Historical Commission
Minutes
May 15, 2013

a consultant from out of state, as this was done for the Library building. The LHC
discussed this issue and it was expressed that the needs analysis can be done before the
foundation is created. A motion was made and approved to “pursue getting a needs
analysis for the new Museum building.” As the next step, it was decided that Bridget
should write to the four identified consultants with a Request for Qualifications and query
about their fees.

D. Membership, Fundraising, & Events
1. Membership statistics & report: Old Friends is a new Business Sponsor.
2. Email/phone reminders to members to renew: Bridget reported that members are
still renewing based on the last reminder, so she and Dan will wait to ask LHC
members to make personal contact with members who have not renewed. Dan
Mellish is putting together a new letter template for Business Sponsors.
3. Taste of Louisville – Saturday June 1st:
a. Paula Elrod, Betty Scarpella, and Karen DiCarlo will make pizzelles to give away in
front of the Museum.
b. LHC volunteers at the Museum will be Gladys Levis‐Pilz (10:00AM‐12:30 PM) and
Anne Robinson and Marilyn Hunt (12:30‐3:00PM).
4. Labor Day Parade – this item was postponed for the next meeting, when Lynn Koglin
will be present.

E. Discussion/Approval of projects and expenses
1. Street Faire – June 21, 2013. Lynn Koglin is in charge of the LHC booth. Gladys Levis‐
Pilz will pick up 10 pounds of root beer barrels from Assorted.
2. The LHC would like to sell raffle tickets for the donated painting of the Museum this
summer and would like to request that the Elks lodge operate the raffle under its
license, if possible. A motion was made and approved to make this request.
3. Update on “How Well Do you Know Louisville?” ‐ The brochure is at the printer.
5,000 folded copies will be ready for distribution beginning at the Taste of Louisville.
4. Buona Sera Market – will be held near the Steinbaugh Pavilion on Tuesday evenings
through the summer. LHC member Andy Williams, the organizer, suggested a possible
plan for the LHC to raise money by selling beer tickets at the event; however, after a
lengthy discussion, LHC members decided that this was not possible to accomplish this
year. It would require getting a special events liquor license and dealing with liability
issues. However, LHC members wished Andy success with the Buona Sera Market this
summer.

F. Chairperson’s Report: Dan Mellish informed the LHC that Avnet, the company he works
for, donated $800.00 to the LHC in honor of his volunteer work. LHC members
congratulated Dan and thanked him for his efforts.

G. Commission comments and discussion items for next meeting: As noted in minutes.

H. Close Fundraising Board Meeting & Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 8:45PM.
