Memorandum
To: Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board
From: Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB)
Date: September 5th 2013
Re: Parks and Open Space Trails Recommendations
The City of Louisville Parks & Recreation Department and the Open Space Advisory Board
(OSAB) are soliciting recommendations for new trail connections. Attached please find a “Trails
Recommendation Form” which you can submit to City staff so that your ideas are recorded. This
form is also available on the City’s webpage and on the Fans on Louisville Open Space
Facebook page. If you would prefer to discuss trail recommendation with a board member
please join us at the following locations and times:

Louisville Public Library (951 Spruce Street) on Wednesday, September 18th from 5-8:00 pm
Louisville Recreation Center (900 Via Appia) on Thursday, September 19th from 5-7:30pm

Next Steps:
1. After soliciting recommendations from the public, City staff will compile
recommendations and present findings to OSAB for discussion and prioritization.
Factors considered in the OSAB’s prioritization include, but are not limited to, the
following: Compliance with the Open Space Mission, public benefit and the Parks, Open
Space and Trails Comprehensive Master Plan trail recommendations.

2. OSAB recommendations will be further evaluated by staff. Factors considered in staff
evaluation will include, but are not limited to, the following: OSAB recommendations,
public comments, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
construction constraints, project costs, partnership possibilities and timeline.

3. Final staff recommendations will be presented to OSAB and submitted in the 2015-2020
Capital Improvements Project (CIP) process. The CIP’s will be reviewed by the City
Manager’s office with final approval through City Council.

Please help us improve the trail system in Louisville by submitting your recommendations and
encouraging your neighbors to do so as well!

PARKS & RECREATION
