Louisville City Council Meeting
August 6, 2002
Page 4

for bus service in Louisville. He explained that many proposals and alternative routes
were considered. He stated that residents who live along the route would be severely
disadvantaged by alternative routes, as there would be no increase in the bus service, and
perhaps service will be worse. He urged Council to adopt the plan the way it was
originally designed, as it will serve the residents well.

Terri Macey, 593 Spruce Circle, Louisville, CO, stated that she recently purchased a
home on the bus route to provide her children transportation to the Louisville Middle
School. She noted that the bus route provides service to young people, and commuters to
Boulder, and an increase in service would be a benefit to all. She noted that she takes the
bus to Boulder frequently. She voiced her concern that a handful of citizens opposing
increased bus service are dictating to the entire city. She stated that Council has never
bowed to special interest groups and should not on this occasion.

Carolyn Aulenbach, 710 Owl Drive, Louisville, CO, stated that she routinely take the 227
bus to Boulder. She voiced her excitement over the proposed DASH service and her
disappointment that the service has been delayed. She explained that the frequency of
service makes it easier for people to ride the bus. She noted that, with the number of red
pollution days in Colorado, bus service is vital. She stated her understanding that the
DASH would be rerouted and requested that Pine and Polk be included in the route.

Jill Clements, 665 Ponderosa Court, Louisville, Co, explained that her house backs up to
West Pine Street and voiced her concern that a bus stop has been put near her property
and the increased bus traffic has disturbed her peace and quite. She complained that her
dog barks at the people waiting for and disembarking from the buses, that people rest
against her fence, and her two young children can no longer play unsupervised in the
back yard. Additionally, she stated that the stop is at a dangerous curve, which poses
safety issues. She suggested moving the bus stop closer to where it was originally
located or along Tyler Street and Via Appia.

Scott Robson, 582 W. Ash, Louisville, CO, Boulder County Alternative Transportation
Coordinator and member of the DASH Roundtable Advisory Committee, explained that
Boulder County is the sponsor of the DASH service, and the service is funded through a
federal grant. He noted that the Boulder County Commissioners sent a letter to the RTD
Board requesting the DASH service be delayed until January of 2003. He stated that the
roundtable group was made up of the school district, citizens and business owners of
Louisville, Boulder and Lafayette. He stated that the committee worked for nine months
to determine the DASH route. He noted that the most viable route was the existing 227.
He stated that the Boulder County Commissioners believe that the DASH Advisory
Committee should reconvene to meet with the Pine Street residents and forward a new
routing recommendation to RTD that will be the most beneficial to the most citizens
along the 227 route. He thanked Council for their support of the DASH bus service.

4
