Historical Commission
Minutes
May 7, 2014
“The mission of the Louisville Historical Commission is to advise City Council in the
development and use of the Louisville Historical Museum and to promote public
awareness of the history of Louisville, Colorado and its surrounding community, with
an emphasis on the coal-mining era, 1877-1955. The Commission establishes and
monitors criteria for the collection, preservation, and display of historical artifacts,
documents, and structures by the Louisville Historical Museum.”
The current mission statement for the Museum was allowed to continue without
revision. There was a consensus that the language in the mission statements relating
to the emphasis on Louisville’s mining history period is not exclusionary, and the
mission statements can be revisited in the future if need be.
XI. Taste of Louisville – June 7, 2014
A. PE and Betty Scarpella will make pizzelles in front of the Museum.
B. GLP volunteered to help at the Museum from 10:00AM-12:30 PM and PE
volunteered to help following the making of the pizzelles. Others indicated that they
would check their schedules.
XII. New format for Study Session in September with the City Council
The LHC will make its annual presentation on September 9, 2014. The format has
been revised to make it “more to the point” and to highlight accomplishments. DM will
work on the presentation and this topic will also be on the agenda for the next LHC
meeting. GLP offered to copy edit the presentation in July.
XIII. Louisville History Foundation (LHF) Update
A. Foundation director Marilyn Hunt is working on obtaining estimates to start a
Foundation website. The city hosts the website for the LHC, but now the LHF will
need its own domain name and website. In addition, the LHF wants to bolster the
relationship/connections with Business Sponsors and enable on-line donations.
B. The Needs Assessment for the new building on the Museum campus, which the
Foundation is helping to fund along with the city, will get done in 2014.
XIV. Commission comments & discussion items for the next meeting
LHC members are urged to come up with ideas for the LHC float for the Labor Day
parade. LK is willing to work on the float, but wants help.
XV. Close Meeting & Adjourn: The LHC meeting adjourned at 8:17PM.
