REGULAR BUSINESS: <br />INTRODUCTION OF NEW <br />:MPLOYEES Nelda Mohr, Library Director, introduced Jessica <br />McGinley as the City's new children's librarian. <br />PROCLAMATION - OLDER AMERICANS <br />MONTH Mayor Fauson declared May as Older Americans <br />Month. <br />PROCLAMATION - NATIONAL POLICE WEEK - POLICE <br />MEMORIAL DAY Mayor Fauson declared National Police Week and <br />Police Memorial Day. <br />PRESENTATION - W-470 <br />AUTHORITY Rich Ferdinandsen, Chairman of the W-470 <br />Authority, presented an update regarding the <br />Authority's activities and pending state <br />legislation including metro transportation issues. <br />Mayor Fauson stated that Council would not be <br />making any decision this evening as they will be <br />listening to the comments by Mr. Ferdinandsen <br />before consideration of any action. Anyone <br />wishing to speak to the issue can speak under <br />public comments. <br />Mr. Ferdinandsen presented Council with studies <br />including the centerline study and summary <br />comments and maps. Also is an environmental study <br />and total revenue projections that were part of <br />the traffic models to determine the financial base <br />for the highway project. <br />Mr. Ferdinandsen gave a brief history of the <br />Authority to determine the need for the highway, <br />the alignment, and financial feasibility which <br />were included in DRCOG 2010 Regional <br />Transportation Plan. Regardless of the outcome of <br />the recent election, the documentation that <br />supports the need .for this project is part of the <br />overall plan for transportation to the year 2010 <br />as officially adopted by the DRCOG Board in 1987 <br />and is the foundation for the W-470 project. <br />Mr. Ferdinandsen stated that the Authority felt it <br />had presented a sound financial proposal and felt <br />it was unfortunate that the election was not <br />successful. However, this does not change what W- <br />470 is as it is still a very viable project in the <br />northwest quadrant of the Metropolitan area which <br />involves this community. <br />Mr. Ferdinandsen referred to legislative actions <br />that are occurring including considerable <br />2 <br />
