REGULAR BUSINESS:
RESOLUTION #22, SERIES 1989 - RECOGNITION OF
TIM EWAN Mayor Fauson presented Jim Ewan with a resolution
recognizing his work and dedication while serving as
the Chief Building Official for the City of
Louisville. Mr. Ewan is retiring after working over
10 years for the City. The Mayor also presented Mr.
Ewan with a watch.
PRESENTATION - LOUISVILLE CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE Eugene Caranci, Executive Director, Louisville
Chamber of Commerce, presented Council with the 1990
Chamber Budget request and an update of their
activities. Mr. Caranci stated that it is his
belief that in the next year the City is going to
experience a "remarkable increase in the number of
small businesses and major high-tech businesses
moving into our City." Mr. Caranci sited a report
by Kirchner Moore showing the City's positive
economic growth pattern in sales tax.
The Chamber's number one goal was to expand their
efforts in economic development by supporting
existing businesses with expansion, and by
attracting new businesses and new job opportunities
in Louisville. Twenty new businesses opened in
Louisville in 1989, including cottage businesses,
with a total of 73 new jobs. Nine of the businesses
are in services and the others are in retail.
Several of the existing businesses expanded adding
72 full-time jobs and 60 part-time jobs making a
grand total of 132 full-time and 60 part-time jobs
to date in 1989. Mr. Caranci explained that the
Chamber is involved actively with the Metro Denver
Network, the 5-City Economic Development Consortium
and the Boulder County Chamber of Commerce
Coalition. Mr. Caranci has been working on several
prospects and is presently working on a presentation
to locate a major company in Louisville.
There are presently 257 members in the Chamber for
which programs have been put together to support
these business members in their efforts to succeed.
Mr. Caranci detailed all the programs that the
Chamber sponsors throughout the year including the
Taste of Louisville, the 4th of July Celebration and
Flag Day stating that none of these things could be
accomplished without the monetary support from the
City of Louisville and the many volunteers
throughout the City. Mr. Caranci thanked Council
for their commitment to the Chamber and asked that
they vote favorably to fund the Chamber when they
adopt the 1990 Budget next month.
2
