PRESENTATION <br />EXPLORERS POST Officer Dan Jackson, Post Advisor for the <br />Louisville Explorers, detailed a recent trip by <br />the Post to Seattle for a national competition <br />where they placed in three of the four events. <br />They took first place in witness interview wherein <br />96 teams competed. The Post requested that <br />Council consider funds for a trophy case to <br />exhibit these and other trophies they have been <br />awarded. Mayor Fauson commended the Post and said <br />that the request will be considered during budget <br />deliberations later this year. <br />REQUEST FOR STREET CLOSURE - <br />LABOR DAY CELEBRATION A letter was submitted by the Fall Festival <br />Committee requesting street closures and use of <br />Memory Square Park and City Hall for the various <br />uses listed in the letter. <br />Staff recommended Council approve the requests and <br />Anderson so moved. Scarpella seconded. <br />Unanimous. <br />APPOINTMENTS TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK <br />GRANT COMMITTEE Hundley explained that Louisville and Lafayette <br />have been notified by the State Department of <br />Local Affairs that they have been jointly awarded <br />a $400,000 grant from the Community Development <br />Block Grant program. The grant is for the purpose <br />of providing below market interest loans for <br />improvements to the respective downtowns. As per <br />the grant application this program is to be <br />administered by a joint committee appointed by the <br />Louisville & Lafayette City Council. Each Council <br />will have three appointments. The original <br />committee members from Louisville were Clair <br />Beckmann of the First National Bank, John Wilken <br />from the Chamber of Commerce and Rich Wanush, <br />Director of Community Development. The Council <br />may either reaffirm these members or appoint new <br />members. <br />Council commended all three members for their <br />commitment of time, their efforts and ultimate <br />success. <br />Szymanski moved that these three members be <br />reaffirmed. Mayor Fauson seconded. Unanimous. <br />ORDINANCE #904 - 80TH STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY VACATION <br />PUBLIC HEARING Rautenstraus read by title only Ordinance #904, <br />"An Ordinance vacating a Right-of-Way known as <br />80th Avenue between Dyer Road and the north <br />Boundary of Parcel D."
