REQUEST FOR STREET CLOSURE - CHAMBER CHRISTMAS <br />COMMITTEE A letter was submitted by the Christmas Committee <br />for an "Olde Fashioned Christmas" requesting a <br />street closure on December 5, 1986, on Main Street <br />from Pine to South between the hours of 5:00 p.m. <br />and 9:00 p.m. The purpose for the request is for <br />a Parade of Lights to allow safe pedestrian <br />traffic through the downtown shopping area. <br />Szymanski moved that the request be approved. <br />Mayor Fauson seconded. Unanimous. <br />RESOLUTION #43 - SUPPORT OF BETTER <br />AIR CAMPAIGN Rautenstraus read in its entirety Resolution #43, <br />"A Resolution encouraging Louisville residents to <br />leave their cars at home on eight preassigned <br />weekdays beginning November 15 and support the <br />"Better Air" campaign. <br />Anderson asked staff to make all employees aware <br />of this campaign and participate in the effort to <br />reduce air pollution. <br />Sackett asked if there is evidence that this <br />program reduces air pollution. Wanush stated that <br />the claimed results showed a 10~ reduction in <br />carbon monoxide during this same campaign last <br />year. <br />Mayor Fauson moved that Resolution #43 be adopted. <br />Szymanski seconded. Unanimous. <br />ORDINANCE #914 - WATER RATES - PUBLIC <br />HEARING CONTINUATION Rautenstraus stated that the continuation of the <br />public hearing was schedule for this evening and <br />suggested that the Mayor re-open the public <br />hearing and ask if anyone in the audience wished <br />to speak as notice of this public hearing was <br />published. <br />Mayor Fauson re-opened the public hearing and <br />asked for anyone wishing to speak either in favor <br />of or in opposition to Ordinance #914. No one <br />asked to speak. <br />Szymanski stated that the research and <br />investigation that has gone into this proposed <br />ordinance has resulted in a reasonable and <br />justifiable proposal and urged Council to approve <br />it on final reading. <br />Phare gave a breakdown of the money that would be <br />generated over the next several years for funding <br />depreciation for a total 5-year gain of over <br />$150,000. <br />2 <br />
