Building Code Board of Appeals <br />Meeting Minutes <br />February 16, 2017 <br />Introduction of New Sr. Administration Assistant / Elizabeth Schettler Page 2 of 3 <br />Staff introduces Elizabeth Schettler to the Building Code Board of Appeals. Staff <br />describes Schettler's responsibilities to the board. For example, Staff mentions she will <br />be attending meetings, taking meeting minutes, creating agendas, and emailing board <br />members with any updated information pertaining to the board. <br />Open Government Training and Pamphlets <br />Chairperson Geise gives a brief description of open government training and how the <br />board members receive the training. Knapp suggests from staff a more in-depth <br />explanation for open government training. Geise requests a record of which board <br />members have completed the training from staff and the date for the next training <br />session. Geise also requests to have from staff each board member's updated term <br />length and status. <br />Approval of Agenda Postings Locations <br />Ramsey moved and Novik seconded the motion to approve the agenda postings <br />locations. Motion passed by all members present except Berry who did not arrive to the <br />meeting until 6:52 p.m. <br />Knapp and Novik question what documents are distributed and posted in the city <br />buildings. Staff is unaware of the process but ensures board members will be updated <br />with an answer before next meeting. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Goals and Projects for 2017 Building Safety Division Staff <br />• Permit Software Implementation <br />o Staff describes the new permitting software the department uses and how <br />inspectors use it for inspections in the field. Staff explains how the <br />software has been challenging in regards to polishing the software for the <br />department's everyday use. Novik suggests that the department reach out <br />to other municipalities and see how they have implemented this type of <br />software within their department. <br />• Open Discussion <br />o Knapp asks staff what building safety refers to within the department. <br />Novik explains how building codes are created and enforced in order to <br />create this term "building safety." <br />o Staff mentions the average permit reviewing turn -around time is shorter. <br />For example, residential reviews are in three instead of four weeks and <br />commercial reviews are in four instead of five weeks. <br />o Novik asks about staffing and the permitting process within the Building <br />Safety Department. Staff responds by explaining who is on staff, what is <br />involved for submitting a permit and the department's over-the-counter <br />permitting. <br />UPDATE <br />None heard. <br />
