City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 5, 2008 <br />Page 2 of 14 <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA <br />Billy O'Donnell, 444 Owl Drive, Louisville, CO contributed a book entitled The <br />Kite Route, Story of the Denver & Interurban Railroad, to the City of Louisville. <br />COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br />THE AGENDA <br />Mayor Sisk announced the City has entered into a contract to purchase the Post <br />Office Building from the Thomas Family. The closing will not take place until <br />November. He stressed the importance of the acquisition as it will provide <br />parking and a possible public/private partnership to the downtown area. The <br />Louisville Revitalization Commission is reviewing alternatives for the property. <br />The US 36 Mayor's and County Commissioners Coalition met and prepared joint <br />applications with RTD for Senate 1 funding for the US 36 Project. One <br />application was filed for bus lanes and the second for additional lanes. <br />Mayor Sisk thanked Council members and all the volunteers who participated in <br />the Race for Life Cancer Relay. <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORT <br />City Manager Malcolm Fleming reported on the following: <br />• The City has contracted with CDM Consulting for services. They will <br />assist in a needs assessment for a GIS System for the City. The report will <br />be available in the next 90 days. <br />• The City is making progress of the gateway signage project. Studio No. 6 <br />has submitted five different designs and consensus has been reached on <br />one design. <br />• The July 16th Open House on Trash and Recycling received good <br />response and the public comments will be incorporated into the RFP. <br />• The Louisville Middle School Construction project is creating some <br />changes to the traffic flow along Main Street. The Police Department is <br />working with the school for pick-up and drop-off areas. <br />• New hires for the City include: Accounting Manager Lance Hillis, Parks <br />and Recreation Director Joe Stevens; Parks Technician Robert Vaughn, <br />Police Officers John Tafoya and Anthony Martinez; Accountant Barbara <br />Kelly; Park Superintendent Dean Johnson; Facility Maintenance Manager <br />David Szabados and Head Lifeguard Johann Volk. Promotions: Steve Hite <br />was promoted to Assistant Operations Manager; Dave Nicholas was <br />promoted to Operation Technician III and Diane Kreager was promoted to <br />Accountant Technician. He thanked the Human Resources Department for <br />their hard work. <br />
