10/2/84
Page -7-
street parking and the School would have to
make the improvements of pavement and curb
and gutter and sidewalks, etc.
Councilwoman Johnson Commented that the letter she referred to
under Council Comments at the last Council
meeting was from the Grush's in which she
requested that a letter be directed to the
School - asked if this letter had been sent.
Acting City Administrator Rupp advised that
the letter had been prepared as requested
but it was not sent out because all these
things were starting to materialize. Attorney
Rautenstraus composed the letter for the
Mayor's signature but it was being held until
this discussion was held.
Mrs. Johnson requested that whenever the letter
is sent out to the School that a copy of it
be sent to the Grush's.
Councilwoman Morris Suggested that she would like to hear the
comments from the people in attendance on
this item. Also she felt that the traffic
patterns may change when the new school is
opened depending on the buses, how many there
are; whether or not they are going to go back
to the old pattern of coming in on Hutchinson
St. She felt this would have a significant
impact on the number of parents that are
dropping off their children and the number of
buses currently being used. She suggested that
when staff is working with the School is what
changes will need to be made in November as
well as now depending on what changes happen
then.
Charla Nicholas Ms. Nicholas stated that she is not a resi-
453 W. Griffith St. dent in the area but she has a child that
Louisville attends Louisville Elementary School and she
drives everyday and she has been involved in
this traffic. She has been trying to solve
this traffic problem for 2 years. Ms. Nicholas
stated that they have tried to educate the
parents and it is next to impossible. She
talked to a woman the other day that was
parked on the wrong side of Garfield St. and
asked her if she would please go around and
come back through and park the right way be-
fore the kids come out because when people
do that they make a U-turn in front of all
the traffic which is illegal. It is not
illegal to make the U-turn there but it is
impeding traffic. She rolled up her window
