8/21/84
Page -6-
WATER TREATMENT PLANT Acting City Administrator Rupp reported
STATUS REPORT - LIFTING that at the Thurday evening study session,
WATER RESTRICTIONS August 16th, Rocky Mountain Consultants and
Val Leiker, Supt. of Water and Wastewater
Plants provided Council with a status re-
port of how things were progressing at the
water treatment plant; indicated what was
going to take place with the testing and
they planned to take additional tests over
the weekend.
Bill Schuler, Rocky Mtn. Mr. Schuler stated all the components of
Consultants the water treatment plant are now in and
operable. The testing had not gone quite
as well as they had hoped. They had tested
the plant at 5 MGD over an extended .period
of time and feel very comfortable with that.
6 MGD had been thru the plant today and even
7 MGD for a short period of time. There
is some difficulty with the soda ash feeder;
the auger for this piece of equipment that
was delivered was the wrong size. A new
one had been ordered but as of today had
not been received. They took some additional
steps to get the auger; did receive it and
was being installed this evening. They had
not been able to test the plant at 6 MGD
for a given period of time - while the rains
had been a blessing for the lawns they have
worked as a detriment as it is difficult to
get enough space in the storage tank to keep
them from filling up quickly. It was his
recommendation that a phasing of the watering
restrictions be adopted, i.e. every third
day with no hourly limitation for 2 cyles
enabling them to work with Mr. Leiker to
get the plant fully tested. Also, get his
operators properly trained and get a better
feel for proper chemical usage required for
the flow rates.
Manual or Automatic Mode In reply to Mayor Meier's inquiry, Mr.
Schuler replied they anticipate by tomorrow
everything should be operating on a full
automatic mode. Hydraulically it is on
automatic mode now; the problem is with the
chemical feed equipment.
Mayor Meier stated that he would not favor
going to any restrictions that would need our
operators to work 12 hours a day for a
manual mode of operation.
