7/19/84 Page -8-
Discussion as to how realistic the time
schedule of June lst completion was. Mr.
Smades stated very realistic and should
the weather become a factor when the cement
is being poured they would use enclosures
and heat during this process and the costs
would be absorbed by their firm. He did
stage that if the original design was for
the 4MGD treatment plant was used in lieu
of t:he 2MGD and then expanding, there would
be a savings of approximately $30q,000 -
$40C),000; however it was doubtful that they
could meet the June 1st deadline with 4MGD.
It is their intent to have to have automation
through state of the art to minimize O. & M.
costs, i.e. the panels will be oriented so
that: they can be added to the ultimate size
the City wishes. Although the figures did
not appear on the cost sheet, the high service
pumps were included in Phase I.
DirE.ctor Karl Kasch stated, with the construc-
tion of the Howard Berry plant along with
future elevated storage will be able to take
the present high zone off of pumps. This
system includes a 12" interconnect to the
Eldorado Springs line, the 42" that ties into
the 60" which is built this year from Marshall
Lake, and 30" treated water transmission mains
at McCaslin, thru Homart west loop, and then
from McCaslin along Cherry St. to Heritage
tie into and make the ultimate loop to make
the connection to the 12" main at that point.
The percentage of cost to the City by adding
the fast track is 6+%.
Councilman Leary commented that there appears
to :be no time for testing of this plant to
get it operational - what is this time frame?
The reply was once the plant is built there
is a year of adjusting everything and this
is not uncommon. They will test immediately
the potable water trying to produce it by
June lst. They do not foresee any major prob-
lems with the production of treated water.
There will be other problems with one pump,
a chemical feeder, or some of the controls
and. this work will be continued until these
problems are solved. During the shake down
period both the staff and engineers will
operate the treatment plant and this will be
a learning process for staff.
