7/5/84 Page -3-
Councilman Luce stated that he felt it was
important for the public to know why Council
is taking this action. In his view, although
it :is not going to be understood this way,
this Council, he didn't believe, is taking
this action in any manner to try to pin blame
on any individual. This Council is not looking
for a scape-goat. The City Administrator
is not being placed in that roll. He felt
the issue, as far as he was concerned, is
the issue related to the credibility of the
City Government; it is not an issue of who
is at fault. There is never a good time to
lose a City Administrator. In his view Leon
has served the City very honestly, very
capably, and with a great deal of dedication.
There are points in time where sometimes it is
necessary for a change; or sometimes good
things have to come to an end. He thought
this was the case tonight. However, he did
not want this to be in anyway reflected in
terms of the sort of energy and effort that
Leon brought to the job.
any DelPizzo Commented that he did wish to say t1~e worse
thing to say to the press is to who was to
blame and he felt that Council should take
their share of the blame. If Administrator
Wurl was such a good man, then why is he
leaving tonight because Council has put so
much pressure on him in 2 years?
Councilman Luce remarked that he had only
beers on council for 6 months.
Mayor Meier Stated as he had expressed his opinions to
the Council, he really didn't want to accept
Leon Wurl's resignation and basically the
reasons for that would be the timing of the
resignation and there were lot of things
Council had to do and get accomplished.
As Councilman Luce stated the timeliness of
any City Administrator leaving is never a
gooci one. He requested of Mr. Wurl that
the matter be expedited and not get into
a lot of problems that could arise. Mayor
MeiE,r stated he would accept Mr. Wurl's
resignation to honor his wishes because
he respected him at a fine City Administrator
and a good human being.
Councilman Leary Commented he felt obliged to give his reasons
why he will accept this resignation.
