BUSINESS MATTERS OF THE COMMITTEE: <br />a. BRaD Mission Statement Discussion: Chair Oberholzer lead discussion <br />regarding the mission and purpose of the BRaD Committee. Discussion included: <br />i. Review and discussion of the BRaD Committee duties outlined and approved by <br />City Council; <br />ii. Commission Member opinions regarding the Committee as a Pro -Active source <br />of advice / recommendations to Council regarding Community business matters <br />and climate versus an Advisory / Reactive role by the Committee in response to <br />specific Council questions; <br />iii. Assessment of sources of information / economic indicators available to the <br />Commission to assist it in its role of advising Council regarding specific business <br />/ economic matters affecting the business climate of the Community; <br />iv. Business survey opportunities / update / structure as a specific initiative by the <br />Committee; <br />v. Scope of Committee focus beyond the core Old Louisville and McCaslin <br />business corridors to include the entire Louisville city limits; <br />vi. Possible recurring reports to Council regarding topics pertinent to the Louisville <br />business community / climate; <br />vii. Possible study session with Council or Council committee specific to BRaD <br />matters. <br />After lengthy discussion, the Committee outlined `Action Items' for the Committee <br />and the City / Economic Development dept: <br />- Key Economic Indicators Report: The Committee asked Mr. DeJong to develop <br />and provide a `Key Indicators Report' that would be provided to the Committee <br />not less than quarterly, listing those items which in his opinion provide insight <br />into the health and performance of the Louisville business community. Changes <br />over time (annual / quarterly) and comparison to like `competitive' communities <br />would be included. Indicators would include information on: <br />o Sales tax collections — by sub -market area; <br />o Business license issuances; <br />o Business closures; <br />o New business expansions / relocations; <br />o Other indicators as suggested by Mr. DeJong. <br />- Louisville Government Finance Report providing regular information to the <br />Committee on sources of revenue and specific impact on Louisville services in <br />the event of short falls in specific revenue sources. <br />3 <br />
