Louisville
COLORADO • S1NC
BUSINESS RETENTION AND
DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
SUBJECT:
DATE:
BRAD COMMITTEE STRATEGY DISCUSSION
NOVEMBER 6, 2017
PRESENTED BY: AARON DEJONG, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Staff would like the Committee to continue its discussion in developing a Mission
Statement and Strategy for evaluation of city policies and decisions as it relates to
economic development topics.
To help start the discussion, I prepared the attached document that states a `logic'
towards how the Committee may evaluate policies and opportunities. This is a first draft
and changes/modifications are encouraged. My thought process in developing it was to
identify what a business or the business community as a whole would want from its
local government to help in its decision making.
The intent of this document is to begin a BRaD planning process to develop a strategic
direction that can be shared with Council. Such strategic direction would align BRaD
with the support of Council to ensure their efforts support City economic development
goals.
BACKGROUND:
So the Committee has information in one place, below are the duties outlined in the
BRaD Committee formation resolution.
B Duties. The role of the Committee will include, but not be limited to, advising
the City Council on such matters as:
a) Advise staff and City Council on policies and strategies to enable the City to
reach its Business Retention and Development subprogram goals and objectives
as set forth in the City budget, with such goals and objectives, as in effect from
time to time,
b) Promote collaboration and communication between the City and the local
business community.
c) Share insights regarding local economic conditions.
d) Serve as a sounding board for City opportunities that can promote economic
activity
