CITY OF LOUISVILLE <br /> BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS <br /> Minutes August 24,2000 <br /> Board Members Present: Giles Schurman <br /> Greg Cullison <br /> Ray Schlott <br /> Staff: Tom Talboom, Chief building <br /> Official <br /> Sam Light, City Attorney <br /> 1 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7.00 p.m. <br /> 2. Roll Call: All Board members were present with the exception of Erik Hartronft <br /> (excused), Bob Spencer(excused) and Charles Kiem(unexcused). <br /> 3 Elections of Officers: Election of Officers was deferred until more Board members are <br /> present. Current officers will remain, Giles Schurman as Chairman and Greg Cullison as <br /> Vice Chairman. <br /> 4 Designation of public posting site: <br /> Greg Cullison-Motion to retain posting at City Hall Public posting board. Seconded by Ray <br /> Schlott. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. <br /> 5. Review of City Ordinance to repeal the 1997 International Plumbing Code and <br /> adopting the 1997 Uniform Plumbing Code: <br /> Sam Light-As you know there is a lawsuit pending involving the adoption of the 1997 IPC. <br /> You should have a memo from us advising that the complaint has been filed by the State Pipe <br /> Trades Association and two union plumbers who live within the City of Louisville. One of the <br /> reasons they like to have individuals as plaintiffs for lawsuits is to get over any legal issues as to <br /> whether an association or union has the ability to pursue a lawsuit on behalf of its members. <br /> The State Plumbing Board was not named as a plaintiff. They were named as a party which may <br /> be affected by the outcome of the lawsuit. The State Plumbing Board,to my knowledge,is not <br /> actively involved in the lawsuit. I did talk to the Assistant Attorney General and she had <br /> indicated that they were likely to come in on the side of the plaintiffs. <br /> I met with City Council in August to talk about this lawsuit. By a vote of three to two the City <br /> Council directed our office to go ahead and prepare an ordinance that would repeal the 1997 <br /> International Plumbing code and adopt in its place the 1997 Uniform Plumbing Code.
