June 7, 2017 <br />Ms. Lisa Ritchie <br />CITY OF LOUISVILLE <br />Department of Planning and Building Safety <br />749 Main Street <br />Louisville, CO 80027 <br />Re: Special Review Use — Letter of Request <br />Dear Ms. Ritchie, <br />This letter will describe the proposed use of the new columbarium we are hoping <br />to build at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church at 506 Via Appia Way. <br />• A columbarium is a place for the respectful and usually public storage of <br />cinerary urns, i.e., urns holding a deceased's cremated remains. <br />• The structure will be built on the south elevation of the existing church <br />between the church and the parking lot. The south wall of the church <br />serves as the backdrop for the construction. The proposed use is consistent <br />in all respects with the spirit and intent of the comprehensive plan. It is <br />being designed to be consistent with the construction materials and overall <br />design and layout of the existing church. Furthermore, we do not believe <br />this new addition will be contrary to the general welfare and economic <br />prosperity of the city or immediate neighborhood. <br />• The purpose of this structure is to create a remembrance garden for <br />members of the church and others in the community to pay respects to <br />family and loved ones who have passed away. The remembrance garden <br />will include plaques with family member names as well as a wall containing <br />the ashes of those who have been cremated. These ashes will be stored in <br />urns in a structure provided by a company specializing in this type of work. <br />• A line of landscaping will be provided between the existing sidewalk and <br />the new columbarium area to create adequate shielding of the <br />columbarium space to the adjacent neighbors. The current plan is to add <br />'burning bush' hedges along the entire length of the columbarium. These <br />
