I 1 1 <br />/a/ <br />FRONT <br />The 1956 directory shows that Eva Evanoff resided in the house at 1131 Spruce for a <br />time, and this has been confirmed separately by members of the Evanoff family. She <br />was by that time a widow, and she lived in the garage section of 1131 Spruce. <br />The 1966 and 1967 Louisville directories show that Restas was still living at 1131 Spruce <br />in those years. Directories from 1967 to 1971, the year of Restas' death, are not <br />available. Upon Restas' death in 1971, ownership of 1131 Spruce passed to Steve <br />Evanoff, Jr., as Joe Restas and Steve Evanoff, Sr. had planned for. <br />Current Ownership, 1972-present <br />In 1972, Steve Evanoff, Jr. sold 1131 Spruce to Thomas Roome and Jean Morgan Roome. <br />Jean Morgan is the current owner. <br />According to Jean Morgan, when she and Tom Roome purchased the house, the only <br />source of heat in the house was a gas heater in the kitchen. Also in the kitchen were an <br />electric stove and a very low kitchen sink, but no cabinets or counter. While making a <br />few modifications to the property, they found that the walls and ceilings of the house <br />were made of wood. According to the current owner, they did not remove any original <br />walls in the remodeling that they undertook to make this bachelor miner's house more <br />livable. They covered the original covering of rolled siding that was made to look like <br />bricks (as shown in the 1948 photo above) with aluminum siding. They converted the <br />garage into a bedroom, and the moved the entrance to the closet so that it is now <br />accessible from the bathroom. Also, they moved the shed that is shown on the 1948 <br />County Assessor photo, above, from the west side of the house to the yard at 1117 <br />Spruce.
