City Council Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />November 3, 2008 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />Michael Kranzdorf, Pine Street Plaza, noted that it is clearly a question of having the <br />developer pay the actual cost or the City subsidizing it. <br />Rick Brew, RMCS, noted that subsidizing it should be used as an incentive. Right now it <br />is basically being given away. <br />Dalton stated that BRaD needs to move forward with a recommendation that has <br />realistic and defensible numbers. <br />Mark Zaremba, Downtown Business Association, noted that it would be helpful to hear <br />from someone who is developing in the downtown and understands the costs and issues <br />better, such as Arlin Lehman. <br />Pritchard stated that for some developers it will be less costly to buy and demolish an <br />existing building for parking rather then pay the fee. <br />Yarnell continued the development to the December meeting. <br />DISCUSSION/DIRECTION -SHOP LOUISVILLE 2009 WORKPLAN <br />Zaremba gave the highlights of the 2009 proposal. The total for the proposal is $15,000 <br />for the program and $5,000 for printing. This includes additional City facility signs, new <br />advertizing media, web site maintenance, and 20 hours to address other new programs <br />or ideas. <br />Hogan asked if the audience for the program is still the same (residents) or should the <br />scope be broadened. Has the program saturated this audience? <br />Dalton stated that residents should continue to be the audience and members agreed. <br />He added that he would like to see the emailing of the logo to all businesses added to <br />the 2009 budget. <br />All members were in agreement to add the item bringing the 2009 budget to $22,000. <br />Members also discussed a variety of other items that could be sold to raise funds and <br />awareness. <br />RETENTION VISIT REVIEW & FOLLOWUP <br />Members recapped the recent retention visits. Hogan will present ayear-end summary <br />of visits in her annual report. <br />• Achtermann Chiropractic, August 22 -Pritchard/Lathrop <br />Pritchard stated the visit went well and for the most part they are happy in the <br />community. They had some concerns about parking and their property tax <br />assessment. <br />• Louisville Tire & Auto, September 4 - Sackett/Marsella <br />Sackett reported the visit went well and that the only concern noted was how the <br />
