Business Retention and Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 5, 2019 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />V. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA: NONE <br />VI. BUSINESS MATTERS OF THE COMMITTEE: <br />1. Centennial Valley Parcel 0 General Development Plan Update: <br />Planning & Building Safety Director Rob Zuccaro reviewed with the Committee the <br />work to date on the Centennial Valley Parcel 0 General Development Plan update, <br />making reference to the power point slide presentation provided with the BRaD <br />meeting package. BRaD members provided general questions and comments on <br />the status and timing of further action on Parcel 0, with comments including <br />emphasis on transportation oriented mixed use including higher density residential <br />in line with analysis provided by the City's consultant report. <br />2. Introduction of Stan Zemler and Economic Development Efforts (update): <br />City Manager Heather Balser introduced Stan Zemler, Interim Economic <br />Development Director for Louisville. Mr. Zemler discussed with the Committee his <br />goals as Interim Director (noting that he did not desire a full time position). Mr. <br />Zemler provided his views on city efforts toward economic development, <br />suggesting that they be focused (generally) on sustaining municipal finances, <br />providing opportunities for place -making, and fostering thought and agreed action <br />toward achieving goals for the next generation of the community. <br />3. Business Forum Follow -Up. The Committee discussed the June Louisville <br />Business Forum. Members of the Committee supported continuing the Business <br />Forum events, suggesting that they continue to be held roughly twice per year and <br />that they alternate between a morning and an evening forum. The Committee <br />agreed to discuss a date for the next forum at its next meeting. <br />4. BRaD Next Steps. Chairman Oberholzer lead the Committee in an open forum <br />discussion of goals and next steps which members of the Committee would like <br />BRaD to pursue. Mr. Oberholzer noted the list of Potential BRaD Discussion <br />Topics provided with the BRaD meeting materials, and noted that other topics / <br />goals were welcome for discussion. Committee members, Mr. Zemler, City staff <br />and Council Liaisons discussed a variety of issues and possible goals, including: <br />- Should BRaD be Proactive or Reactive on Louisville business / economic <br />matters? <br />- Can or Should BRaD be a business advocacy group? <br />- What are other cities (particularly Boulder County / North Metro) doing toward <br />economic sustainability? <br />- Need regular BRaD updates to City Council. <br />- What has happened to business retention visits? Need to re-engage in <br />retention visits. <br />- Can there be a consistent City welcome process when new businesses open? <br />3 <br />
