Cityof <br />Louisville <br />PARKS & RECREATION <br />Memorandum <br />To: Open Space Advisory Board <br />From: Ember Brignull, Open Space Superintendent <br />Date: September 11, 2019 <br />Re: Staff Updates <br />General: <br />• A Ranger Naturalist has been selected to begin employment with the City. The start <br />date is anticipated for late September. <br />• First interviews for the Senior Natural Resource Position are tentatively scheduled for <br />late September. <br />• Coordination efforts have begun with Rocky Mountain Fire Protection District (RMFPD) <br />for an October prescribed burn at Davidson Mesa pending RMFPD availability. <br />• Coyote Run Trail project has been bid out. City Council is scheduled to review the <br />contract on October 15t" <br />• Staff is working on a brochure and signage for a self -guided tour of Davidson Mesa Open <br />Space regarding resource management activities <br />• Open Space staff, contractors, and volunteers have spent over 420 hours on weed <br />control efforts so far this year. This includes both mechanical and chemical control <br />efforts. Work will continue through the fall. <br />• Staff will be attending the Colorado Open Space Alliance Conference which is occurring <br />in Steamboat Springs, September 16tn_18tn <br />• Our District Wildlife Manager, Peter Boyatt, received a new assignment and will be <br />moving to Basalt, CO. A new DWM will be assigned to District 2 by the end of December. <br />In the meantime, we are communicating with the Area Wildlife Manager, Kristin Cannon <br />on all wildlife issues. <br />• Staff has been preforming trail maintenance at Davidson Mesa near the trailhead and <br />along the trail located directly south of the Dog off -leash area. <br />• Staff is working through the third round of trail corridor mowing. This round of mowing <br />is anticipated to be complete by the end of September. <br />• Staff has been inspecting bridges and making repairs as necessary.
