City Council Business Retention & Development Committee
Meeting Minutes
September 8, 2008

Hogan asked the Committee what ideas or thoughts they had for the program for 2009.

Michael Menaker, 1127 West Choke Cherry Drive, stated that the program should
highlight the “why you need to shop in Louisville” aspect and noted that BRaD should
look for inexpensive media/advertising options.

Pritchard stated that the program should piggyback on the welcome packets the realtors
already do.

Menaker stated that he would like to see the packet done electronically (DVD) and it
should include a map of town, lists of businesses, and contact information.

Hogan noted that the Shop Louisville subcommittee will meet again in October to start to
lay the groundwork for the 2009 program assuming funding is approved in the 2009
budget.

FOCUS ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRUCTURE BASICS
Hogan listed the speakers for the October 6 roundtable which will highlight the different
types of structures used in the area. She noted that each of the following types of
structure will be represented at the roundtable:

?
Public Economic Development Organization (EDO) is part of a local government
or municipality.
?
Private EDO is defined as organizations with the express mandate of promoting
economic growth without government/municipal control.
?
Public Private EDOs are long-term partnerships between the public and private
sectors, designed to pursue common goals related to the social, political, and
business environment in a community.

BRIEFING – AUGUST ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
Hogan briefly discussed her activities for August including meetings with the owners of
Louisville Plaza and a new energy company moving to Louisville.

Menaker asked about the status of the Main Street Partners Project.

Hogan reported that due to the cost of residential building in this economy, the project
will likely change the second floor from residential to office.

Krueger asked for an update on the purchase of the post office site.

Fleming reported that the closing date will likely be in late October.

OPEN GOVERNMENT TRAINING
Muth reminded committee members that each one is required by the City Charter to
attend open government training once every two years. This fall’s trainings are
scheduled for November 5 at 7:00 PM and November 6 at 8:30 AM.

DISCUSSION ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
