Parks and Public landscaping Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Thursday March 05, 2020 <br />Louisville City Services <br />739 100 St <br />7 PM <br />1. Roll Call: PPLAB members present: Laurie Harford, Dave Clabots, Diana Gutowski, and <br />Steve Knapp, Staff Liaison: Dean Johnson. Director of Parks & Rec: Nathan Mosley. <br />2. Approval of Agenda: Unanimously approved <br />3. Approval of Minutes: Unanimously approved <br />4. Staff Updates <br />A. Continue discussion on budget requests <br />5. Board Updates <br />N/A <br />6. Public Comments on Items Not on Agenda <br />A. Diana: Median Renovations: observation of trees slated for removal along Via <br />Appia. The only trees slated for removal without replacement are in a cluster <br />near the curved approach to Boulder Road. All other trees marked for removal <br />will be replaced one for one. Project will begin March 16th: removal, <br />remediation then replanting. The goal will be to move from a monoculture of <br />trees to a healthier mix of different species. <br />7. Update and Discussion on City Council Special Meeting on Integrated Weed <br />Management Plan/Herbicide Use <br />A. City Council Special Meeting on herbicide use: folks present at meeting were <br />opposed to herbicide use. Nice overview of current process. Productive <br />discussion on next steps, community outreach, etc. <br />B. Staff is looking at organic products to replace synthetic herbicides. <br />C. Feeling is that Council is moving towards no synthetic herbicide use at all. <br />D. Staff will move forward under council intent, and is evaluating personnel needs <br />and management of turf, landscaping, sports fields and ponds. <br />E. Managing noxious weeds such as puncture vine and thistle will be a challenge, <br />for example in the dog parks. <br />F. Evaluation of additional resources needed by staff such as a volunteer <br />coordinator, weed coordinator, community outreach coordinator, etc. <br />2 <br />
